Lay Them at the Feet of Jesus

Yesterday, while I was sitting in the courtroom I got my spiral out and was looking through it. And came across this quote that I had written. It was encouraging to me.

I just wished that I could learn to lay those burdens at his feet and leave them there. I have the tendency to pick them back up. In this sinful world it is easy to pick them back up. Satan does what he can to cause us hurt and pain and in that we, many times without realizing it begin to carry the burdens again. May I learn to lay my burdens at the feet of Jesus and trust Him with my life. :o)

It's Final

Hello everyone. Sorry it has taken so long for me to get on here and update you all. We were at the courthouse ALL morning long. In fact, we were the last people in the courtroom. The good news first - the divorce is FINAL! The other good news is that we get to see our sweet grandbaby this week end!!
The bad news - my son has to pay 3 months back child support - plus his child support starts May 1st. The ex stipulated that there be supervised visitation for the first month - the only good part is that it will be my Mother who will be supervising. So that makes it a little easier. She also was able to get the judge to accept her request to be able to move to Dallas- we were hoping that she would have to stay in the county that we live in and any of the counties touching ours - but she was able to get her way. Truthfully it seemed that she got most of what she wanted. We really wanted our sweet granddaughter to live closer so that it would be easier to be able to see her - especially for the Thursday visit - that is only 2 hours long. If she lives that far away it will take a long time just to get to where she will live. We just pray that God will close the door to what ever is drawing them to Dallas.
Anyway this morning was very draining to our family. After court we called our youngest son and had him meet us at a local restaurant. We have not spent time together as a family in a LONG time. It did us good. Then of course my husband had to go get our granddaughter a new Sabbath Dress. He is so excited to be able to take her to Sabbath School this next Sabbath!
My youngest son had his interview - he said it went well. But he has continued to put applications in - he would like to find a job closer if he can.
My oldest son REALLY needs a job. He has an interview on Wed morning so please be praying. We are praying that God will open the right doors.
Thanks so much everyone for the prayers, they mean a lot!

Good Morning

Just a quick note to say Good Morning! I hope you all have a great day! We are a bit nervous but trusting God is in control today. We have to be at court at 9:00am and my youngest son's interview is at 10:00am. It's a beautiful day with highs expected in the upper 80's. It does look like on Thursday we will get a little bit of a break from the warmer temps. And I am looking forward to that. With temps in the upper 80's like 88 - we might have to turn the AC on late today. We will keep it open as long as possible.
Ya'll have a great day. I will be on later today to catch you up on the days happenings.

Beautiful Weekend

Hello~ I hope you all are having a good week end! Ours has been a very nice one. The weather has been great. You know the kind of weather that you can keep the windows open and enjoy the natural breeze through the house?! Yep- that is how it is here. I just love this kind of weather. Before too long - it will be hot here so I thoroughly enjoy this weather as long as we have it.
You know I said we were going to make some Strawberry Jelly? Well we made that first batch - it ended up being a great jelly for diabetic. We learned some great stuff about canning and making jelly. We found out that there are two kinds of pectin- one that has sweetener added and another kind that does not. So on the ones that have sweetener added already - your not suppose to add sugar but several of the youtube videos that I watched said that they added at least a little bit of sugar - even to the pectin's that said you did not have to add sugar.
Another thing we found out is that it is hard to tell how much strawberries are needed. We have finally set up a recipe (after making our second batch of jelly this weekend) that works for us. And I like that. It is a try it till you get it right thing. And it just took two tries to get it right for our family.
After talking about the jelly with people at work - several of them wanted a jar. So he took several with him on Friday. We are going to give each of our Mothers a jar of it for Mother's Day along with some other special things. I think they will both enjoy it. And I have a few other people I want to share with. With Strawberries being in season right now -it is the best time to make the jelly right now.
Ok - I also have a prayer request- Tomorrow is a BIG day for our family. My oldest son has court -my husband and I will be going with him. And my other son has an interview. We are hoping a door is open for him - since the job he is going for - is something that they don't always like to hire - right out of school. Also my oldest son might have a good lead on a job - and let me tell you - He REALLY needs a job. We do NOT have the money to pay his bills. We have helped out for a few months because my husband was able to make a lot of extra money along with income tax money and such. But now we are down to only having enough money to help with a couple of bills and ALL the bills are coming due. Please pray about this. SO many things that could stress me out but I am doing my best to put my focus on Jesus Christ and trust Him to provide. Thanks a lot for the prayers. You ladies are awesome!!

Bible Marking Series...."The Sabbath"

As you can tell, I have decided to go in a different order than how my teacher presented these topics.

Before we begin, I would like to be sure and say up front- on all of these markings- I am not claiming that these are all of the verses for the topics. This is just a basic beginning point at studying a topic. I hope you all will enjoy them all.

Things you will need for Bible Marking:

*Bible
*colored pencils
*pencil- I recommend a good #2 pencil- these are getting harder and harder to find.
*pen- optional - I like to use a pen to write information on a paper in the back of my Bible.
*ruler or bookmark- you will use this to underline the verses.

Now you are ready to go!

Today's lesson is The Sabbath:

Now by this time you should already have 2 other lessons marked in your Bible (unless you would rather not do it that way and you just want to do your lessons on paper and put into a notebook-it is up to you- when writing these posts though I will be talking as if you are doing a Bible Marking in your Bible - like what I have done).

The Sabbath - SA - Gen. 2:1-3 (This is the space for you to pick a color to use and color in whatever shape you'd like to)

"Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made." SA- Ex. 20:8-11

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it." SA- Ez. 20:12

"Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them." SA- vs. 20

"hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.' " SA- Is. 58:12-14

"Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. 13 "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the Lord honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, 14 Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the Lord has spoken." " SA- Luke 4:16

"So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read." SA- Acts 17:2

"Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures," SA- Acts 13:42-44

"So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. 43 Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God." SA- Is. 66:22-23

"For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me," says the Lord, "So shall your descendants and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me," says the Lord. " SA- Mark 2:27-28

"And He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath." " SA-End

********************************************************************
Just a little quote from "The Desire of Ages" that helps bring this Bible Marking together. I hope it blesses each of you:

"Wherefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath." These words are full of instruction and comfort. Because the Sabbath was made for man, it is the Lord's day. It belongs to Christ. For "all things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made." John 1:3. Since He made all things, He made the Sabbath. By Him it was set apart as a memorial of the work of creation. It points to Him as both the Creator and the Sanctifier. It declares that He who created all things in heaven and in earth, and by whom all things hold together, is the head of the church, and that by His power we are reconciled to God. For, speaking of Israel, He said, "I gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them,"--make them holy. Ezek. 20:12. Then the Sabbath is a sign of Christ's power to make us holy. And it is given to all whom Christ makes holy. As a sign of His sanctifying power, the Sabbath is given to all who through Christ become a part of the Israel of God.

And the Lord says, "If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; . . . then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord." Isa. 58:13, 14. To all who receive the Sabbath as a sign of Christ's creative and redeeming power, it will be a delight. Seeing Christ in it, they delight themselves in Him. The Sabbath points them to the works of creation as an evidence of His mighty power in redemption. While it calls to mind the lost peace of Eden, it tells of peace restored through the Saviour. And every object in nature repeats His invitation, "Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." Matt 11:28. " DA 288,289

Drawing Nigh to God....series

Drawing Nigh to God

by
Minnie E. Dauphinee

After This Manner Pray...."Our Father Which Art in Heaven"

"The disciples has been with Christ, and they knew that there was a connection between His prayer life an the wondrous power that attended His words and His works. Often they saw Him come from some secluded place where He had spent hours, or an entire night, in prayer. Sometimes they were near enough to hear Him. He poured out His heart to God as though He were in His visible presence. It was on such an occasion that , overwhelmed with a sense of their inability to pray, they said, "Lord, teach us to pray" (Luke 11:1). Though they were ministers of the gospel, they were not ashamed to acknowledge their lack of power in prayer.
In answer to their request Jesus repeated the Lord's Prayer in almost the same words as He had given it in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:9-15).
This was as much as to say, "If you will live out the principle set forth in this prayer, you will have the very power which you desire." May we not believe then, that if we understand the meaning of this prayer and live out its principles in our lives, we too will have that power in prayer for which we long.
"When ye pray, say, Our Father which are in heaven." What a wonderful manifestation of the love of Jesus to allow us to call His Father our Father! This makes Jesus our Elder Brother. And marvel of marvels, He assures us that His Father loves us as much as He loves Him (John 17:23). Throughout the Bible, God is represented as a loving father. Let us think of the best earthly father our imagination can picture. Think of his love, and the joy it gives him to grant every request that is for his child's good. Then let us remember that there is no comparison between this father's love for his child and the love and tenderness of our heavenly Father and the joy that it gives Him to grand our request.
As a little child comes to his earthly father for the necessities of life and for guidance in all things, so we are to come to our heavenly Father. As little children we are to yield to His will in all things, and accept His plans for our lives. In the physical life the natural order of growth is from childhood to youth and on to maturity. In the spiritual life it is different. Growth in grace is constantly towards trusting faith of childhood. We must "become as little children" and continue as "little children"- trusting, teachable, obedient, and loving."

What a Promise!

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.
  Psalms 138:7

I love this one! Especially since I feel like we are walking in the midst of trouble. And I know there are several of you ladies who are also walking in the midst of trouble. God is there and He will save you. Praying for each of you. :O)

Prayer Warrior Skill #7

Prayer Warriors

by

Ron Halvorsen

Battle Skill 7- Praying the Higher Prayers

"Most Prayer Warriors are familiar with petition prayer- the kind of prayer that bring a problem to God and asks Him to supply a need or solve a problem. God does invite us to present our needs to Him (Philippians 4:6). Yet many Christians feel a bit embarrassed when they pray for a solution or an answer that does not come immediately, and they must keep on asking God for it. Some attempt to solve this problem by asking God just once for what they want and then setting it aside, trusting that God hears and will answer the prayer in His own way and time.

But there is another way- a prayer skill that moves the original petition to a joyful and higher level of communion- the level of thanksgiving and praise. Present your petition - your statement of problem or need- to God thoroughly in one season of prayer. Be free to tell Him what solution you feel would be ideal. Then, release the whole problem or need to His wisdom and timing, confident that He is "able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think." Ephesians 3:20. Then, in all prayer sessions after that, thank Him for the answer He has chosen and is in the process of providing. Thank Him for all that He has done for you in the past- as well as for others and for those in the Bible times. Go into detail about this with Him. Then begin to praise Him for foreseeing the problem and for providing the answer, whether you understand it or see it or not. Mention briefly your area of need and begin praising Him for the answer.

You will find incredible rewards in this. Satan hates praise and thanksgiving. He simply cannot remain in the presence of a person immersed in praise. Praise is the language of heaven. Check it out: Whenever you encounter a throne room in the book of Revelation, you find angels and people praising God. Why not start practicing the language of heaven right now? The darker the situation, the more intense the crisis, the more you are privileged to give thanks and praise. you will soon be sharing remarkable experiences with your friends and loved ones.

These are a few of the prayer skills that Prayer Warriors can master. As you develop your ability to apply these, you will discover others. Keep a prayer notebook and not each new skill as you discover it and learn how to use it in battle. Never stop sharpening and expanding your battle skills. God is waiting for Prayer Warriors who will expand their ability to play an ever stronger role in His earth army. You can be such a Prayer Warrior." pg. 68-69

This is the end of this series. I hope you have enjoyed it!

I shoulda been a lawyer

Oh my goodness, Now you guys know what going on with our family. Well remember the judge had ordered mediation? And how it did not work out? Well apparently it was going to cost $400. for each of them. That means that this lawyer who was going to do the mediation - was going to get paid $800. for 4 hours or less of work. $800 - I can't not even imagine how it would feel to make that kind of money. And to think she blew us off..

Well soon to be ex dil called her lawyer and said she did not have the $400. and so our lawyer suggested that her lawyer ask the mediator if she would donate her time - and of course her answer was no. What happened next you just won't believe- Her lawyer called my sons lawyer and asked if my son would not only pay his own $400 fee but pay her fee too.!? Can you believe the nerve of them? I am thinking does he know what has happened over the last 5 months?

Well there is a good chance that they are going to try to get a court date and not do the mediation - which is a good idea since th mediation usually deals with property and such. The problem that they have in this case is just that ex daughter in law wants my son to have supervised visitation. There is no need for this and her demands have cost us all ALOT of money.

Anyway now it seems we are waiting on a court date. I am not holding my expectations up very high cause this thing could be drug out a long time - if what we have gone through the past 7 months (when he first filed) give any indication to what we can expect.

Well like I said - wow- these people make ALOT of money. The Ad Litem was paid $500. by both parties - so he got $1000. for probably about 3-4 hour total of work once it is all said and done and so far we don't know if it did any good at all.

Ok - I am done with that rant. Sorry  - I just could not believe the nerve of that lawyer.

**********************************
Well sure enough it has cooled down - and the temperatures are slowly going down all day long. It is nice to have this kind of day ever so often. I am so glad I spent so much time outside getting those jobs done. Today I will be spending a good amount of time in my sewing room. I need to make my BOM blocks and I have a pair of pants that I am going to convert into capri's. I have some other projects in there that I could work on if I get all the other stuff done. I also have other house work that needs to be done but it is nice to be able to look forward to a few hours in my sewing room.
I hope you all have a good day! :O)

Farmgirl..AKA Lisa :o)

So if I have not been doing enough stuff around here to make me feel like a farmgirl - well here I am at it again.
I have a patch of lambs quarter in my back yard. Alot of people would see this stuff and just think it was weeds but it's not. This stuff is edible and is very nutritious. Look it up - you will be surprised. I have not had any in a long time but tomorrow I will be cooking some up. this is the patch after I picked enough to fill a produce bag. I just took my scissors out there and cut down some of the big ones - plant by plant. There are a few weeds growing up in there so I just did my best to cut the lambs quarter. But tomorrow I will sort through them before I cook them. They are good to saute them with olive oil and salt. Of course there are a lot of things you can do with them, that is just how I will be cooking mine tomorrow.
I just love the ability to go out there and pick enough of this to make a great sized serving, without any work from me to get the plants to this point - except making sure I did not mow or weed eat that area. It's really neat how the simple things in life bring so much happiness.
Today I spent a great deal of time in my back yard working. There is a lot of work to do out there, but I was able to get a good dent in getting the stuff done. And it feel so good to be able to sit on my back porch and see the improvements. The weather was great here today- the highs were about 78-80 degrees. The sun was shining and a cool breeze - well that is because the day started in the 50's. I love weather like that. Tomorrow the highs will only be in the 60's and we have a chance of rain. If it rains I won't have to water our plants but if it does not rain - watering our plants will be on my to do list. I am doing my best to enjoy what ever the weather is like- because summer is just around the corner and before too long we will be lucky if the lows get into the 70's at all.
I hope you all are doing well. :o)

The Ultimate Use of a Tree

Before I ever started this blog - I was really not into writing but I heard something on the radio that happened on Earth Day and I really felt like I needed to write something about my feelings on the subject. So I wrote what is below and I posted it on Facebook. The next year - on Earth day my friend, Susan, posted this as her status on Facebook :"while celebrating Earth day, don't forget to celebrate the creator, not just the creation." So very true, couldn't have said it better myself.

So now I make a point to post this every year because I think it is a very important reminder. Have a great day! :O)
***********

Last year on Earth Day I heard on the radio how there was a group of people that went out to some Forrest and cried and yelled for the trees that have been cut down- they even said "I love you" to the trees.

As I thought about this, I realized that what was truly sad was that these people did not realize that in the Bible it is clear that God created the world and all that is in it for us. There are several examples that I can think of right of hand where trees were used in the Bible. Trees were used to build the Ark. Trees were used to build some of the furniture in the Tabernacle(then overlaid in gold.) And we must not forget trees were also used for the cross that our Jesus was crucified on.

I think we have lost our focus when we cry out publicly for the things in which God created, instead of for our Creator. Our focus has truly been lost because the ultimate gift was in the death of Jesus upon that wooden cross. And because of His death we have the gift of salvation. Will we accept it?

Feeling like a Farm Girl

Ok - I guess I am just going to post pone the Bible Marking post until next week. Just way too much going on around here to get it done.

The good news is that we got all of our plants planted!! Yay! We are so thrilled to have that done. We have continued to do a bit of cleaning in our yard. It is slowly looking even better.

Here is a list of what we have planted: yellow squash, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, okra, watermelon, and cantaloupe. I also planted sage, sweet basil, oregano and rosemary plants in my little rose garden. We did not plant a whole lot of each of them but enough to supply the needs of our family. We are going to do our best to have a good crop. I have been reading about what the different plants need and I am going to do what I can to make each of them produce well.

I am beginning to feel more and more like a farm girl. Why, you ask? Well because not only do I quilt, raise chickens, garden, but this week I am going to learn how to do some canning. I have a great link that I will post here - to take you to the directions that I am going to use to make some Strawberry Honey Preserves. Yumm-o! I will be thrilled to have learned a new skill. So now you understand why I am feeling like a farm girl.

Running a Bit Late

Today's post will be late- yesterday on top of my normal Friday cleaning, my husband and I had to run a few errands and then we got to working in our back yard some more. We got our lean to cleaned out and organized! I was thrilled to get that done. And we also replaced a wall on it that had rotted out. We replaced it with tin, cheaper and will last a lot longer! I got some more weed eating done but around our yard - there is ALOT to do so I still have quite a bit to do. But we are making progress and that is what counts. Anyway so I did not get today's post typed up. That will have to happen later this afternoon. I hope you all are having a nice relaxing week end so far! May God bless you in a special way today and always! :O)

A Happier Girl Today

Well yesterday was not a total waste of time - Why?  because today my brother-in-law came by our house and picked up a whole lot of junk metal that we had in our yard. We had an old shed that was damaged in a storm. And my husband and sons had used the metal along with wood to build a carport in our back yard. Well it has since come down- due to bad weather. We had an old weight bench that was an eye sore and to make it even worse- is that it was like on the side of my sun room towards where my chickens are so it made it a much less nice view. We had an old riding lawn mower in a prominent place in the back yard that was an eye sore and I have been wanting to get it moved for over a year.

Now as I look out into my back yard - I am loving what I see. The only problem was that it rained pretty hard yesterday morning so everything was wet and muddy. Where the tin from the shed was taken - was really needing to be weed eated and all the little things here and there picked up. There is some wood in that area that needs to be taken to our burn pile. And where the riding lawn mower was - needed to be weed eated. So there are some things that really need to be done to help make our yard look SO much better but I couldn't get out there for 3/4 of the day because of the wetness. But the good new is and what made me thrilled is that about 5pm we got out there in the back yard and we were able to pick up all of the stuff/junk that was in the area where our "carport" had been. And I was able to get the area where the riding lawnmower had been weed eated. We were able to move a flatbed trailer that we have in the back yard to a better place - after unloading some siding that we had on the trailer- we need to find someone that can use that siding and let them come and get it. We got a little of the area weed eated where the "carport" was. There has been a lot of old, yucky wood and we got it all moved to either the burn pile or another pile to use the wood later.

Now today I am hoping to finish weedeating that area where the "carport" was and also clean out a lean to - that we have our working riding lawn mower parked under - along with a lot of other outside tools and such. And I am hoping that this week end we can get our garage cleaned out- it has gotten totally out of hand and I am so tired of when we need something - we can not find it cause it is somewhere in the junk pile. Not sure if we will get that job done or not but I am hoping to at least put a dent into it. Oh and we need to get our plants planted on Sunday. I am so looking forward to our garden this year. I have gotten my gardening books out and I am planning on doing a lot of reading about gardening - it is something that I would love to get good at and the only way that is going to happen is if I start learning about gardening by reading and researching. So that is the plan.
Anyway I hope you all have a great week end. Don't forget that I posted the "Drawing Nigh to God" post this morning so you will want to scroll down if you have not seen it yet.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I just wanted to also say a BIG Thank You to all of you sweet ladies who are such encourager's! My life is better because YOU are in my life!!! :O)

The Connecting Link...The Key to All Prayer

"Our Father" - these words are the key to all prayer. It is our faith in God's father love and in His willingness to hear and help that leads us to come to Him with our requests. One of the conditions upon which we may expect the fulfillment of the promise "Ask, and it shall be given you" is that constantly there shall be a loving relationship between us and our heavenly Father.

This relationship is to be so real and personal that it will be natural for us to talk to Him about everything- as natural as it is to talk to our dearest earthly friend. And because we love Him, we will love to do His will. Of course, we can readily understand that if we treat our heavenly Father as some disobedient, ungrateful children treat their earthly father; if we express our love for Him only when we need something, and think of prayer merely as a power to get good gifts from heaven, we shall be disappointed. Of such the Lord says, "Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer"
(Proverbs 1:28).

When we call God "Our Father," we recognize all of His other children as our brothers and sisters. How do we treat the members of our own family? We take pleasure in being kind to them; we do not criticize them; neither do we expose their faults to the eyes of friends. Once when Alexander the Great was having his portrait painted, the artist was perplexed to know what to do about an ugly scar on the forehead. A happy thought occurred to him; he would have the emperor rest his head on his hand so that the scar would be covered by his finger. This illustrates the way we treat the defects and scars in the character of our natural brothers and sisters. We cover them with our love.

Do we treat in the same kindly way the defects in our brothers and sisters in the family of God? Or do we find it easy to expose their faults and criticize them? If we have been unkind to any, if we have been guilty of criticizing and fault finding, we should humbly confess our sin. This is absolutely necessary if we are to have power in prayer. "God reads our character in our prayers."

A Mighty Way...or not...NOT

I wrote this a bit earlier - before a needed trip to the Antique Mall -that calms my soul and takes me back to an easier time and before being able to get out in the yard and working. All that did me a lot of good. I hesitated sharing this post with you all but I want to be honest. I am not perfect. I fail in my walk with God. I want to have strong faith in my Savior, Jesus Christ but I get discouraged and that is where I was when I wrote this post. I am in a better place now. I do still have some of these thoughts. I am thinking I going to be doing a study into "Waiting" because our family seems to be doing ALOT of waiting lately. So you have been warned- it's not all pretty and peachy - but neither is life:

As many of you know that my son is going through a nasty divorce. It has been 5 months since we have seen our granddaughter. This has been a very difficult time for us.

Several months ago- as I was attending a Beth Moore Bible Study - I was sure that God told me that He would work in a mighty way for my family. This gave me so much hope. I mean serious - what more could a person want than to have God working in a mighty way and working out situations in which - you can see no resolution? Well that is what I had thought God has shared with me that he would do. And I have waited and watched for Him to work in a mighty way.
We went to court - and I was "on the edge of my seat" to see what He would do...the outcome- $500. more that we would have to come up with and really we have not seen any benefit that this money has done for our family.

Oh but I did not give up hope. Nope cause there was Mediation coming up and maybe just maybe that would be where God would work a miracle for us.

So this morning my son and my husband went - thinking that the Mediation that the judge ordered about a month ago - would happen. Well as it turns out everyone had all sorts of other things to do - so it did not happen. So we are delayed again in this whole case. Feeling like we have slipped through the cracks of the justice system....

Instead of seeing God work in a mighty way - I feel abandoned - I feel like my family has gotten shafted yet again. I am trying to hold onto hope. I want to be a Christ follower that He can be proud of - that holds onto hope no matter what. I want to be a light in a dark world but my light is flickering. I am disappointed. So did I just misunderstand?  Has believing that He would work in a mighty way made my expectations higher and dashed my hopes? I know that there are many promises in the Bible - I post one every Thursday, but how do I know that those are meant for me?

It has been such a hard year for our family. And there does not seem to be any relief in sight.

In the meantime - I hold onto verses like this one:

Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalms 27:14

I need my heart strengthened. I pray that after some grieving time that I will have my heart encouraged and that hope and faith will grow in me. That I can begin to believe again that God is in control that we have not fell through cracks with Him too

What a Promise!!

"Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted."
Matthew 5:4

This verse has been such a comfort for my family over the past 5 months. That is how long it has been since we have see our sweet grandbaby. Please remember to be praying for my family especially today. Thanks - I am praying for each of you as well. Thanks :O)

Prayer Requests

Well I just wanted to check in for a bit and let you know what is going on around here and also ask that you keep my family in your prayers especially Thursday morning. As you all know that my son and his wife are in the middle of a divorce. It kind of got dirty. Well tomorrow morning will be the court ordered mediation between the two. It could be as much as 4 hours of them discussing things. We are sure hoping and praying that this will go smoothly and that in the end they can have their divorce granted and visitation set up and that way my son and all of us can finally see that sweet girl again. Please pray that God will be in that room and that everyone will allow God to lead them in what say do and say. Please ask that God will soften my soon to be ex daughter in laws heart. My husband and I have not done anything to cause her to hate us but she seems to really hate us and from some other things in the past - she does not let go of grudges - even the unreasonable grudges.
I really appreciate any and all prayers. We have waited patiently for a long, long time to get this situation resolved.

Well in other news - today my husband and I worked at getting our garden boxes ready to plant the veggies that we went and bought today. I am so happy that last year - I racked up a whole lot of leaves and hay and such and put all of it in some trash cans. I did not stir the stuff up quite enough but most of it broke down enough to be good healthy dirt to add to our garden boxes. Everything is ready! We are very happy that they are ready. We did not plant yet because there is a chance of some storms tomorrow so we are going to wait till Sunday to plant.

Well I better close for now- I hope you all have a good evening. :o)

Prayer Warriors

"Praying God's Word Back to Him"

"Even the most experienced Prayer Warrior has times when prayer seems to go flat or the words for prayer just will not come. During those times, practice the art of praying God's Word back to Him. Go to Psalms 23 and start with the first phrase of verse 1. Thank God that He is your Shepherd. Admit that you are stubborn sometimes like a sheep and need a Shepherd's care. Affirm, with thanks, your belief that when He provides, you will not want. Pray, as the Holy Spirit leads you, to see your own experience in the verse. Then take the next verses, phrase by phrase, and pray them one by one_ always making personal application or claiming the verse for a loved one or for a prayer burden. See how your heart and spiritual nature responds and your faith grows.

The whole Word of God lies before you to pray this way. Try Psalms 1; John 14:1-3; John 3 or 10 or 17; Revelation 22. Take single verses from Isaiah, the gospels, or Paul's writings. When you have no prayer strength of your own, lean on the power of God's Word. He has promised that His Word will not return to Him void but will accomplish the thing for which He sent it (Isaiah 55:8-11). Take Him at His Word and learn how to return God's Word to Him in Prayer."pg. 68

Home Sweet Home

My husband and I went out of town for a few days. We headed out to our favorite state park, the one that my husband really loves to fish at. We had a really nice relaxing time. I really enjoyed the loop that we had our rv on - we walked around it a couple of times a days. The day we were there the longest -we walked around it even more. It was only 1/2 mile but really nice. I have got to get back to exercising more. I am thinking that I will have to keep that walking up now that we are home.

When we got home - we turned our ac down - it is like 86 degrees outside right now. Well the house did not cool down- actually it got warmer. So my husband started checking things out and found that our outside unit was not working. After taking it apart and looking he found the part that looked to be bad - and took a photo of it. Lucky for us Jason's uncle had told us of a place in a town nearby that sells ac parts. So he drove up there and was able to get the part for $25.00! After he got it replaced for some reason there was no power to even our thermostat. So after checking everything out and asking a nice neighbor man who is a retired ac man - we found out that there is a reset button that needed to be reset. And when they looked for that they found a fuse that was bas. Lucky for us, my son had just the fuse we needed. So now the ac is fixed and we are enjoying out house cool down. This is the first time we have had to turn it on this year. I think on Thursday we have another cold front coming through so we will be able to turn off ac soon.

I am so thankful that my husband was able to figure it out. We are happy to be home. I am working on getting our laundry done. I still need to go out and clean the rv.

I will be coming and checking out the blogs that I have missed over the last couple of days. I hope you all are doing well. :O)

Reading Corner...What I am Reading Now

Are you familiar with this set of books?

The Bible Story - a 10-volume set is a great addition to any library. If you have not ever heard of them, it would be something worth looking into.
Well the same author who wrote this set of books - also wrote another book:

This is the book that I am currently reading. So far it is a really good book.

I will probably write a review for it once I am done. It is a long book- so it will probably take me a little while to get it all read.

I hope you all are doing well.

a shepherd looks at PSALMS 23...a review

a shepherd looks at PSALMS 23

by Phillip Keller

We've all read Psalms 23 and for those who haven't, they've probably heard it read at a funeral. It seems to be one of the most beloved psalms for a person who is going through the shadow of the valley of death. And a wonderful psalm of encouragement for those who have lost a loved one.
The only problem that I find with this passage in the Bible is that it is one of those passages that we've read/heard so much that we don't usually take the time to dig deeper. Well one of the books that I have finished reading recently, helps us do just that!

"A shepherds look at Psalms 23" is a book that although it was written in 1970, it has not lost any of its relativity for us today. It was written by Phillip Keller, who was a shepherd in Africa. So he has a much better understanding into what David was talking about in the verses of Psalms 23.
Throughout the 142 pages, the author helps us to understand that this chapter is actually speaking of the Kind Shepherds care of His sheep all throughout the year and its life. No more will I look at this chapter and think that it only has relevance to someone in the last days of life. Although, it is very helpful for that time period in each of our lives, this chapter shows us what great care the Shepherd gives us all through our lives.
I love books that help deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ. And this was certainly one of them. This is the kind of book that I love to read and keep in my library for future reference. I would highly recommend this book. It was such a blessing to me. I hope you, too, get a chance to read it.

By the way - it looks like there might be a few places on the Internet to down load the book for free. So if you are interested in reading it - you could look it up and see.
Here is the psalms. As you read it consider this is a loving Shepherd taking care of his sheep all through the year:

    "A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. "
Psalms 23

If you have read anything that has helped you have deeper insight into this chapter of the Bible please share in the comment section. I'd love to hear about it.

There is No Ladder to Climb

In this world of so many people trying to climb the ladder of success - I am so thankful that Jesus does not expect that of us!

He doesn't care about your status
whether your married or single

He doesn't care where your
rich or poor

He doesn't care whether your
highly educated or hardly educated

He doesn't care whether you
have a lot of money or a little money

He doesn't care whether your are
tall or short
fat or thin
bald or not
black or white

Nope. None of these things(even things I may have forgotten to list) will change God's love for you.
We don't have to work hard to earn the love of our Lord and Savior. There is no ladder to climb in order to be loved more by our God, for He already loved us so very much that He sent His son to die on the cross for us.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
John 3:16

Now THAT is love!
And the good news is that not only do we have to work towards getting more love from our Savior - there is NOTHING that can separate us from that love!!

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:35-39

Praise God there is no ladder to climb to receive His love.

Bible Marking Series..."The Law of God"

Today's lesson is The Law of God

Now by this time you should already have 2 other lessons marked in your Bible (unless you would rather not do it that way and you just want to do your lessons on paper and put into a notebook-it is up to you- when writing these posts though I will be talking as if you are doing a Bible Marking in your Bible - like what I have done).

The Law of God - LG - Romans 4:15 (This is the space for you to pick a color to use and color in whatever shape you'd like to)

So next you would go to the above verse in your Bible. Once you get there - Underline the verse/verses with your colored pencil.

"because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression."
At the end of this verse you will want to write - LG- Luke 16:17

"And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail."
LG- Psalms 111:7-8

"The works of His hands are verity and justice; All His precepts are sure. 8 They stand fast forever and ever, And are done in truth and uprightness." LG- Romans 7:12

"Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good."
 LG- Matthew 5:17-19

"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
LG-James 2:10

"For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all."
LG- Matthew 22:36-40

"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
LG- 1 John 5:1-3

"Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome." LG- 1 John 2:3-6

"Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked."
 LG- Revelations 14:12

"Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus." LG-end

We have now finished our 3rd Bible Marking. See you again next week for our next one. I will leave you with a great quote that helps bring this lesson altogether. God bless :O)

"The law of God, from its very nature, is unchangeable. It is a revelation of the will and the character of its Author. God is love, and His law is love. Its two great principles are love to God and love to man. "Love is the fulfilling of the law." Romans 13:10. The character of God is righteousness and truth; such is the nature of His law. Says the psalmist: "Thy law is the truth:" "all Thy commandments are righteousness." Psalm 119:142, 172. And the apostle Paul declares: "The law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." Romans 7:12. Such a law, being an expression of the mind and will of God, must be as enduring as its Author."

Drawing Nigh to God....series

Drawing Nigh to God

by Minnie E. Dauphinee

The Connecting Link...The Urgency of Prayer

Soon the investigative judgement now going on in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary will be finished, and Christ will declare, "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: ...and he that is holy, let him be holy still" (Revelations 22:11) It will then be too late to pray, for the destiny of all will have been decided.

Jesus wept over Jerusalem. "how often," He cried, "would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!" (Matthew 23:37) He was thinking of the many times He had spoken to their hearts, and they had refused to respond. Hew as about to speak to them for the last time.

William III made a proclamation, when there was a revolution in the north of Scotland, that all who would come and take the oath of allegiance by December 31 should be pardoned. Mac Ian, a man of prominence, resolved to return and take the oath, but took pride in the thought that he would be the very last one to do so. He consequently postponed starting on this errand until two days before the expiration date. A snowstorm impeded his way, and before he reached the throne to receive a pardon, the time set had passed. While others were pardoned, Mac Ian was put to death. He came too late.

Some people excuse their neglect of prayer by saying that they are too busy. One has said, "We might work better and do more work if we gave less time to work and more time to prayer."

That we may find time for daily prayer and meditation, it may be necessary for us to leave undone some things- important things-but whatever the sacrifice called for, let us take time. There is an urgency in the admonition "Seek ye the Lord while He may be found" (Isaiah 55:6)

What a Promise!

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will,
 He hears us.
    1 John 5:14

I love this promise. Just don't overlook the "according to His will" part. Sometimes what we pray is not according to His will and we end up getting a "no" or that request is put on the Wait Pile. I know what these two answers feel like- I am sure you do too.
God hears our prayers and no matter what the answer is, He wants what is best for us. Not just for today, but for eternity's sake.

Prayer Warriors Battle Skills #5

Be sure and see the message at the bottom of this post. Thanks :O)

Prayer Warriors

by
Ron Halvorsen

Battle Skill #5 Affirming Your Right and Authority

"One of the chief methods Satan uses to cripple prayer is to fill the Prayer Warrior with an overwhelming sense of his or her own inadequacy. As we struggle to grow more like the Lord Jesus, we find weak places in our characters, old patterns that keep repeating themselves, areas with which we wrestle repeatedly. Satan utilizes these, and during times of fatigue and illness, floods us with feelings of condemnations. The enemy whispers:

"How dare you feel that God will answer you prayer when you keep doing....?"

"No one with the weaknesses and failures you have is worthy to pray." (pg. 66-67)

"During these times of discouragement, we must remember that our right to pray is a gift of grace- a gift give to us because of who Jesus is and not because of what we are. Your right to act as a Prayer Warrior was given to you when you accepted Jesus as your Saviour and Lord:

By believing on Him and depending on His death on the cross, on His resurrection, on His work as your intercessory High Priest in heaven, all His purity and power were credited to your account
(2 Corinthians 5:21).

You became a citizen of God's kingdom (John 17:14-16), a member of the family of God (Romans 8:14-16; 1 John 3:1-3), a priest (1 Peter 2:5,9), a commissioned representative of Jesus Christ Himself (Matthew 28:18-20).

You became a part of His body, the church (Ephesians 1:16-23).

The Holy Spirit became your personal Partner in prayer (Romans 8:26-27) Jesus gave you the personal right to use His name as authorization to take your petitions before God's throne
(John 16:23).

Not one of these rights and sources of authority depends on your righteousness or merit apart from Christ. Your sins and weaknesses can interrupt your communion and fellowship with God. They can erect barriers which reduce your effectiveness as a channel for His Love. But, "if any many sin, we have an advocate with the Father." 1 John 2:2 God has made full provision for your forgiveness and cleansing. And if you continue to seek His pardon, your shortcomings can not remove your prayer rights and authority- for that is drawn entirely from the gifts of Jesus." (pg 67)

True Worth...True Beauty

I may have already done a post about this and if I have, I am sorry to bore you but this is something that I have been struggling with/working through lately. It's about self esteem.
I grew up in a family where we(my sister and I) were not told that we were pretty for fear t hat we would get big heads. However, we had uncles who thought it was ok to say rude comments about our weight, and trust me my sister and I were not fat. We come from a family where our bone structure is large. A friend of mine says it's our German heritage - apparently Germans are built sturdy - at least according to her.
All of this along with my need to be perfect - a people pleaser really caused me a lot of grief my entire life. I could not even be happy with who I was and what I looked like- because I was not perfect. But what is sad is that I was fine. I have always been larger than the other kids in my class - for two basic reasons - bone structure and because I started school late so I was a bit older than my classmates. I look back at the few photos I have from those years and am so mad at myself for not just accepting myself. Why was I so hard on myself? Did it do me any good? No, not at all.
So lately I have been struggling with these feelings of not being good enough again. Partly because I have had to take steroids this year and ended up gaining about 20- 25 pounds in the last year. Not real happy about that but there is nothing I can do about it now. And beating myself up with negative thoughts will not change the situation.
I have made an effort to eat more healthfully. Adding more fruits and veggies to my diet. And trying to get more exercise.
One way that I worked towards getting more exercise this week end was for me and my husband to go to the Dallas Arboretum. We spent 3 - 4 hours there just walking around looking at all of the beautiful scenery. My husband enjoyed taking photos throughout. I will try to post a few of these photos tomorrow. Anyway while we were there - I know that I was feeling fatter than usual lately and that I would not be too pleased with photos of myself. I tend to be very hard on myself - you know - I am suppose to be perfect and I am SO far from perfect. Well I finally decided that I would allow my husband to take a few photos and just see what i thought of them later.
Well I was pretty happy to find a couple of them pretty ok. I am not real happy with most of them but I was not surprised at all.
I was proud of myself when I decided not only did I like a photo but I decided to be brave and post the photo to Facebook. You know for me that was hard because like I said I have such high standards of what I should be. But let's face it - I am in my forties now and I need to embrace who I am. I am not perfect. I will never be perfect as long as I live on this imperfect earth. Only when Jesus comes and gives me a new body will I have a perfect body. So I am working towards accepting me for who I am. The me that is heavier than I would like to be. The me who I am extremely too hard on. I am trying to remember that God created me and loves me and what is what gives me value. Not what I look like, not how much I weigh or don't weigh. No  -these things are temporal and when all is said and done - they will be worthless. The beauty that comes from within is the beauty that is what God is looking for. The beauty that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ in which we become more and more a reflection of our Father. That is the beauty that will last. That is the beauty that will stand to the end.

So in order for me to work toward being a healthier and more complete me - I decided to also post this photo for you all to see as well. This is me. Me in all my imperfections - the me who wants to become more and more like my heavenly Father. And pray that as I turn my life over to Him - that He will transform into His image. May I not allow myself to be distracted by my physical imperfections-to keep those in their proper perspectives. May I allow Jesus Christ to reign on the Throne in my life.
I hope that you all will realize that God created you and that to Him YOU are beautiful. You may not live up to the high standards of what is perfect in this world, but remember this world is NOT our home. And the values of this world are not the values of our Heavenly Father. You are very special to Him.
Thanks for dropping by and I hope that you will have an awesome day! :O)

Bible Marking...series.."How to be Saved"

"How to be Saved"

So first of all - find a blank page in the back of your Bible. If you have to you could always do this part on a piece of paper and then glue it to a back page. Which ever works best for you.

At the very top of that blank page - I write "How to be Saved" and then "HS" and then John 3:16 and then once I have picked out the color I want to use - I color a oval or circle - what ever you want to use of that color. This is just so that you will know what color you will be using with this Bible Marking.

So under "Inspiration of the Bible" You will want to write:
How to be Saved - HS- John 3:16 Then you will want to pick a color pencil to use and be sure and make a circle/oval/square - what ever shape you want to after your verse.

So next you would go to the above verse in your Bible. Once you get there - Underline the verse/verses with your colored pencil.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

At the end of the verse - you will use your pencil to write: HS- Romans 5:8

You will want to use your colored pencil to underline the verse.

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

At the end of the verse- HS- Romans 3:23-24

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, "

At the end of the above verse - HS- John 1:12

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:"

At the end of the verse- HS - John 3:3-6

"Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

At the end of the verse: HS- Romans 6:16

"Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?"

At the end of the verse: HS- John 14:15

"If you love Me, keep My commandments.

At the end of the verse: HS- Phil. 3:20-21

"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself."

At the end of this verse you will put: HS - END.

And we are done with our second Bible Marking.
