My New Bible

I have several different study Bibles, each one brings something special to Bible studies. Several weeks ago when I heard about the NET Bible - I had to look into it. As I did I realized I had to have it. I knew it would help me understand the Bible better. 

You don't have to buy the Bible in order to check it out- below I will have a link where you can check it out for yourselves. There is also a free app for cell phones that you can get. The reason why I bought the Bible is because I do most of my Bible studying at my desk in my bedroom. And I just love books and like to have easy access to my resources. But like I said you can get on line or download an app on your phone. I think this Bible will give many insights into the study of this special love note from God.

This is a photo of the first page of the book of Proverbs. I wanted you to see all the notes that go along with the text. Many times there are more note than texts on a page. Many great insights in the notes. Gives a deeper meaning to why certain words were used in the text and gives clearer understanding.  

I am so thankful that I was able to get myself a copy of this Bible. I just know it will be used a lot and will be cherished!

Just some of my Favorite Verses

A friend asked me for some of my favorite verses. Her Daddy passed away just a week or so ago and she is going to put a memorial book together about her Daddy. She is really suffering right now and just wanted some help getting some verses together. So I opened up my favorite Bible and started reading through the verses that I had highlighted and picking out my favorite ones. The ones that had really been encouraging to me - especially over the last year or so. And since I had gathered them together I thought that I would share them here with you all just in case some of these verses might encourage you as well. :O)

 "The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."    Exodus 14:14

 "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6

"As your days, so shall your strength be." Deuteronomy 33:25b

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

What You Sow...You Will Reap

This morning I found something amazing and I wanted to share it with you. I sure hope I am able to translate what is in going on in my mind into words and have it understandable.

I had been looking in my Bible Commentary to better understand a verse that I had read and came across this:

"True Religion is often represented in the Bible as an experience of peace."

 

Peace is highly sought after.

 

And when I saw this I could not help but divert my studies to looking up verses that went down the line of this thinking. It took me to Romans 8:

 

    For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God;

for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.     

Romans 8:6-7

 

(It was very interesting to me when I got my "They Layman's Parallel New Testament" out and read these verses in all 4 of the translations. But since I have a lot more to share with you - I will not add all the versions of this text here- if any of you are interested in seeing the others just let me know and I will post them as well.)

 

The next verse I was led to was in Galatians:

 

"For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption,

 but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life."

Galatians 6:8   

 

    I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

             17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 

            18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.   

Galatians 5:16-18

 

 To see what it looks like to sow to ones flesh all we have to do is continue reading in Galatians 5

starting at verse 19:

 

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,  20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.   

Galatians 5:19-21

 

And when we continue to read in Galatians 5 we will see what it looks like to sow to the Spirit:

 

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

             24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 

            25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 

Galatians 5:22-25  

 

What a contrast this is!

 

Did you notice the contrast?

"carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."  

 

We have a choice.

 What do we want to reap?

 

if we sow to the flesh we will reap corruption,

if we sow to the Spirit we will reap everlasting life

 

By allowing God through the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us, by surrendering our sinful desires and allowing Christ to live His live through us are we are able to overcome our sinful desires.

 

This is exciting to me! I have a choice

day by day

decision by decision

and through the help of the Holy Spirit I can live my life for Jesus Christ

and by doing so I can reap peace and so much more..!

Bible Marking 2nd series

Last Sabbath was the last of the Bible Marking Series - that I did with my 10th Grade teacher. These are the ones that I have in my Bible. Many of you have enjoyed the Bible Marking series and so I have found a book that I had that has some Bible Markings listed in it. I am going to do this series in a little different format than the last series.

Eternal Life for You.....God's Greatest Promise

 

"This is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life."

1 John 2:25

 

Who can meditate upon this promise without, in a measure at least, appreciating what it cost to provide this gift? A full understanding of how much it meant to the Father to give His Son to die for us will ever remain a mystery to the  universe. It was the greatest possible revelation of His love for sinners.

Not alone was the Father in conceiving the plan for this supreme gift. We must ever remember that Christ "gave himself for our sins,  that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father" (Galatians 1:4), He "gave himself a ransom for all" (1 Timothy 2:6).

 

History records that years ago King Theodore of Abyssinia took captive, without good reason, the British consul, Captain Cameron, and his staff, whom he held in a dungeon for many months. Great Britain demanded that the prisoners be released. The king refused; and after several futile negotiations some sixteen thousand British soldiers were sent to Africa. They marched 400 miles under the burning sun and over mountainous country to the very gates of Magdala, where Cameron and his men were held prisoners. They liberated him and took him back to England. It is estimated that it cost the English Government twenty-five million dollars to rescue him.

 

Twenty -five million dollars seems like a tremendous sum to pay for the deliverance of a few prisoners. Yet that was as nothing compared with the price paid to deliver you from Satan's power,  "for you know that you have not been ransomed with anything perishable like silver or gold, ... but with precious blood,... the blood of Christ"  (1 Peter 1:18,19), Goodspeed).

 

"Go to Gethsemane, and there watch with Christ through those hours of anguish, when He sweat as it were great drops of blood. Look upon the Saviour uplifted on the cross. Hear that despairing cry, 'My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken me?' Mark 15:34. Look upon the wounded head, the pierced side, the marred feet. Remember that Christ risked all. For our redemption, heaven itself was imperiled. At the foot of the cross, remembering that for one sinner Christ would have laid down His life, you may estimate the value of a soul"- of your soul. Christ paid a great ransom to provide eternal life for you.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bible Marking series....Heaven

1 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.    H- Matt. 25:34

34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:    H- Heb. 11:10

10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Before we begin, I would like to be sure and say up front- on all of these markings- I am not claiming that these are all of the verses for the topics. This is just a basic beginning point at studying a topic. I hope you all will enjoy them all.

*colored pencils
*pencil- I recommend a good #2 pencil- these are getting harder and harder to find.
*pen- optional - I like to use a pen to write information on a paper in the back of my Bible.
*ruler or bookmark- you will use this to underline the verses.

Divinely Guided...In Joyful Paths

"In thy presence is fullness of joy."-

Psalms 16:11

 

A young man who once had a bright future before him confided to his friend: "There is no pleasure this world has to offer that I have not tried- absolutely none. All that I have gotten out of it is defeated ambitions, disappointments, and" -he added with deep anguish of heart-" a penitentiary sentence." Had this young man earlier in life followed God's guidance, he would have suffered no sad aftereffects. His pleasures would have brought him true happiness and the hope of eternal life.

 

Because the Christian shuns worldly amusements, some onlookers think his life devoid of happiness. This is far from the truth. On the contrary, the Christian is the only one who knows the meaning of true happiness. A man asked his Christian friend, "How can you be happy when you have so many trials?" "Because I belong to the Lord, and no trial can rob me of His peace and joy," came the ready response. Jesus demonstrated this principle when, just before going to His betrayal and death, He led the disciples in a song- not a "mournful lament, but in the joyful notes of the Passover hallel."

 

"O praise the Lord, all ye nations:

Praise him, all ye people.

For his merciful kindness is great toward us:

And the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.

Praise ye the Lord."

"A Hunger For Healing"

This is something that I put together a couple of years ago. But I think that the information here is very valuable, so I am reposting it for those who may not have seen it when it was first posted:

Twelve Steps of Sinners Anonymous

1. We admitted we were powerless over our Sin, that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and, when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awaking as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

There is a couple at my church that have a real heart for people and helping them along their journey towards being the people that God intended them to be. Every Monday night we have a meeting. Each week of the month we read something different - on the 3rd Monday night of the month we read " A Hunger for Healing" by J. Keith Miller.

"It is the pain of living that creates a hunger for healing that only God can satisfy."

 

"...the Twelve Steps bring biblical principles of faith to bear on the pain of contemporary people in a way that leads sufferers into a closer living relationship with God and frees them to live a meaningful life seeking God's will."

 

You do not have a to be an alcoholic in order for the 12 steps to help you. The principles are very helpful to everyone. There is a lot of unhealthy thinking that many of us do and those habits that we get into turn into character defects. This program helps us to realize what our character defects are and helps us turn them into assets. Well that is what I have been told. I am still in the process of this journey in my life. These meetings have been very beneficial to me.

The AA program was developed back in 1935 but it is still very relevant to us today.

    Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.    M- 2 Thes. 1:7-9

   4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

As you can tell, I have decided to go in a different order than how my teacher presented these topics.

Before we begin, I would like to be sure and say up front- on all of these markings- I am not claiming that these are all of the verses for the topics. This is just a basic beginning point at studying a topic. I hope you all will enjoy them all. 

Things you will need for Bible Marking:

*Bible
*colored pencils
*pencil- I recommend a good #2 pencil- these are getting harder and harder to find.
*pen- optional - I like to use a pen to write information on a paper in the back of my Bible.
*ruler or bookmark- you will use this to underline the verses.

Now you are ready to go!

Bible Marking series....The Second Coming

If you are new to this series - scroll down to the end of this post to get an explanation of how I use this method for Bible Marking.

Today's lesson is: The Second Coming - SC- John 14:1-3

"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." 

 SC- Acts 1:9-11 

 

9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

SC- Rev. 1:7

 

 

7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.   

SC- Luke 24:36-43

 

36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, "Peace to you." 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have." 40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, "Have you any food here?" 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. 43 And He took it and ate in their presence.

14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"  

 SC - Matt 24:37-44

 

37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Delayed Blessings...

Today I wanted to share something that really blessed me. This was my little devotional for July 4th. I love the explanation of there being a "Delayed Blessings Office" and I think it will bless you as well.

“For the Vision is yet for an appointed time though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” Habakkuk 2:3

 

In the charming little booklet, Expectation Corner, Adam Slowman was led into the Lord’s treasure houses, and among many other wonders there revealed to him was the ”Delayed Blessings Office,” where God kept certain things, prayed for, until the wise time came to send them. It takes a long time for some pensioners to learn that delays are not denials. Ah, there are secrets of love and wisdom in the “Delayed Blessings Department,” which are little dreamt of! Men would pluck their mercies green when the Lord would have them ripe. “Therefore will the Lord WAIT, that He may be gracious unto you” (Isa. 30:18). He is watching in the hard places and will not allow one trial too many; He will let the dross be consumed, and then He will come gloriously to your help. Do not grieve Him by doubting His love. Nay, lift up your head, and begin to praise Him even now for the deliverance which is on the way to you, and you will be abundantly rewarded for the delay which has tried your faith.

 

O Thou of little faith,

God hath not failed thee yet!

When all looks dark and gloomy,

Thou dost so soon forget–

 

Forget that He has led thee,

And gently cleared thy way;

On clouds has poured His sunshine,

And turned thy night to day.

 

And if He’s helped thee hitherto,

He will not fail thee now;

How it must wound His loving heart

To see thy anxious brow!

 

Oh! doubt not any longer,

To Him commit thy way,

Whom in the past thou trusted,

And is “just the same today.”
