What a Promise!

Photo
(just in case you can not see what is written on the photo above - I have typed it out. It is what the note under Psalms 46:1 says in the Andrews Study Bible)

God is our refuge and strength.  A glorious confession of God's power, care, help and love. This psalm led Martin Luther to compose the magnificent hymn "A Might Fortress is Our God."  The threefold statement of God as a refuge or a fortress (vv.1,7,11) depicts him as the one who takes care of our needs in times of trouble; He is our help. God is majestic but also present. God's mountain cannot fall as long as God is there.

What a Promise

    He shall send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah
God shall send forth His mercy and His truth.
Psalms 57:3

God "would sooner send every angel out of glory to the relief of faithful souls, to make a hedge around them, than have them deceived and led away by the lying wonders of Satan" (EW 88)
(this quote was found in my SDA Commentary Volume 3 page 767)

What a Promise

"They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore;
the sun shall not strike them,
nor any heat;"
Revelations 7:16

I read this verse on a friends blog and thought how cool it was, that this promise mentions the same wording as our beatitude for this week  - hunger and thirst. But that is not all- I really liked the last part of the verse. As you all know - I am from Texas and it gets pretty hot here during the summers- and even past "summer" - it was up to 80 degrees today. I know that is not hot but it is much warmer than most states have during the last part of October.

Anyway I have though how I would love to live somewhere that does not have such HOT weather- and someday I will....in heaven!!

Ad speaking of hunger and thirsting - this is speaking of physically but I think it is also speaking of spiritually as well. God will be there with us- How cool will that be?!!

In Isaiah it also mentions the same promise-
"They shall neither hunger nor thirst, Neither heat nor sun shall strike them; For He who has mercy on them will lead them, Even by the springs of water He will guide them." Isaiah 49:10

What a Promise

But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Psalms 37:11

"and shall delight themselves is the abundance of peace

;
of spiritual peace enjoyed in a way of believing, arising from a comfortable view of interest in the blood, righteousness, and sacrifice of Christ; and of all happiness and prosperity in the kingdom of Christ here on earth, at which time there will be abundance of peace, ( Psalms 72:7); or of eternal peace in the world to come, which will be a state of uninterrupted and unspeakable peace; see (Psalms 37:37); all which afford inconceivable delight and pleasure; and therefore such have no need to fret and be envious at the fading happiness of wicked men." From John Gill's Exposition of the Bible

In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more.
Psalms 72:7

Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace.
Psalms 37:37

I love peace - so this is such a wonderful promise to me!

What a Promise

Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart,
All you who hope in the Lord.
Psalms 31:24

Hope in the Lord~ Literally "wait for the Lord."
Hoping and waiting go hand and hand along the Christian way.
Hope is a tonic to Christian experience.

What a Promise with a Bonus

He shall deliver you in six troubles, Yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.
Job 5:19

I have wondered what this verse meant by 6 troubles and then when I it says "in seven"? Well I looked it up in my Bible Commentary and I was very glad I did.

It says:
"An expression found also in Ugaritic poetry. These numbers should not be taken literally. Six means many- seven means more." Is that not the neatest things!

So -
He shall deliver you in many troubles, Yes, in more no evil shall touch you.

That really encourages me, and I bet it is encouraging to you as well.
Have a blessed day :O)

What a Promise

And let us not grow weary while doing good,
for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9

What a Promise

The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Psalms 138:8

What a Promise...AND a Tool

He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.
Proverbs 28:25 NKJV

But I really like this verse in the English Standard Version:

A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the LORD will be enriched.
Proverbs 28:25 ESV

See what I mean?

I have shared before about a great website that I like to use to get Bible verses and do a little in depth study- but today I found something else that is just fabulous and I can see myself using it more and more in the future.

Here is a link to the site - Bible Study Tools.  Today I noticed where it says "Compare Translations" in blue - when I clicked into it - I found a great resource. Sometimes it is good to see what other translations have to say- sometimes it helps us get a better understanding of what the verse means.

For this verse - I much prefer the word enriched - because I think that too often people look at the word prospered and see $ money signs $. And that is not what the verse is saying.

God enriches our lives in so many ways. Trust in Him is what we are called to do - and He blesses us in the way He sees fit, sometimes it may be with money but many times it is with things of so much more value!! Praise God for that! :O)

What a Promise!

16 As for me, I will call upon God, And the Lord shall save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice.

What a Promise

.

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses.
20 He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.                                                                        Psalm 107:19-20 I may have shared this verse before but it really spoke to me this morning in my devotions and was wanting to share with you all. I hope it blesses one of you in a special way.

What a Promise

15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
1 Timothy 1:15

Stay tuned - will have another post up a little later. :O)

Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

What a Promise!

Therefore if the Son makes you free,
 you shall be free indeed.
John 8:36

On this day that those of us that live in the USA celebrate our freedom, I thought this would be a great verse for our "What a promise" post.
The freedom that Jesus Christ made possible for us is the best kind of freedom there is!!!
Hope you all have an awesome day,
whether you are celebrating the 4th of July or not!
