37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 22:36-40
There are those who try to say that because several times in the New Testament -Jesus states that the greatest commandment is to love God and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself that these are the only commandments that we need to keep now. Well I beg to differ with them. If you will look at the photo above that shows the 10 Commandments - you will notice something very interesting. The first 4 Commandments have to do with our relationship with God. And the last 6 deal with our relationship with our fellow man. This is what he meant when He stated that the great commandment was to love the Lord your God with all your heart. Because if you love God you will want to please Him by following His commandments. And the next 6 commandments - are what we will follow in order to love our neighbors- other people- as ourselves.
The Ten Commandment were written by the finger of God onto two tablets of stone- also to show how permanent He meant them to be. When speaking of the Ten Commandments He might have summarized them into two basic commandments, but He did not do away with them.
