Digging Deeper

Sometimes those of us that have been raise in Christian homes tend to think that we know what is in the Bible. And because of that confidence sometimes we just skim through parts of the Bible. I know I am guilty of this.

In Genesis 1 we read about Creation week, then we get to Genesis 2 and many people including myself just keep reading without pausing to ask ourselves questions like - so Why did God wait to create Eve?

Well first we need to look at verse 17

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Now we have to remember that Adam is sinless and has never experienced death, so how would he understand what death was?

Next we go to verse 18 of Genesis 2:

"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

So we notice that God said it was not good for man to be alone, but he did not solve that problem right away. In fact, the very next verse goes on to explain how God created all the animals and that he brought them before Adam- So Adam could name them. We notice in the last part of verse 20, "there was not found an help meet for him."

Adam is searching for companionship.

"And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Gen. 2:23

In verse 23 in the Hebrew language it actually says, "At last."

So God solved the problem - the problem of Adam being alone, lonely. And at the same time helped Adam to better understand what death was.

What I really find interesting about this is that God was trying to teach Adam several lessons here, but the one that stands out the most to me is that when we have a problem, God CAN solve it. It may not be in the time frame we'd like or the way we would like the problem solved, but He can solve it. If we will only allow him to.

Many times we try to solve our sin problems with more sin, instead of just letting go and letting God solve the problem for us. He is there just waiting for us to be willing and to ask Him for His help.

May we apply a Biblical solutions to our problems - In Jesus' name. Amen :o)
