Beloved Name of God......Lamb of God

Lamb of God

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,
Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
John 1:29 KJV

  • Name of God the Son
  • The "Lamb of God" is referred to only twice. Both references are in the book of John.
  • Lambs were habitually sacrificed in burnt offerings. In genesis 22:8, Abraham says, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering" (NIV) For God Himself to make a sacrifice meant something world changing was about to happen.
  • When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming to be baptized, he proclaimed Him as "the Lamb of God" and for shadowed His destiny as a sacrifice for all our sins.
What made Jesus different? Napoleon Bonaparte, war general and emperor of France, felt confident enough to venture and opinion.

"Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires," he wrote, "but on what did we rest the creation of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him."

As God incarnate, Jesus was more powerful than any king, emperor, or war leader that ever lived. And how did He come into the world? As a sacrifice! As a lamb to be slain so the people HE loved would live forever. What emperor has ever give so much to his people or paid such a high price for his gift? In weakness there is strength and in His absolute vulnerability to the evil of this world, the Lamb of God had strength enough to save us all from its power. Forever.
