Supreme Love....Fixed Thoughts
"Fix your thoughts on the things that are above, not on those that are on earth."
Colossians 1:2, Goodspeed.
An English aviator flying across Arabia was forced to land in an open field because of motor trouble. After necessary repairs were made he took off again. Soon he heard a grating noise that sounded like the gnawing of an animal. Remembering that the lower animals cannot live in a high altitude, he turned the plane upward and flew higher and still higher. Finally the noise ceased. Later, when he landed, he found a large field rat lying dead n the bottom of the plan.
There are moral pests that menace the character of men-"the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the proud glory of life" (1 John 2:16, Moffatt). None of these can live in the high, pure atmosphere of heaven. Therefore the apostle Paul admonishes, "Set your hearts on the things that are above, not on those that are on earth" (Colossians 3:1,2,Goodspeed).
Hungering and thirsting after righteousness are kept alive by fixing our thoughts on the things that are above, and keeping them there. This does not mean that we are to have no concern for the interests of everyday life, but that we shall love heavenly things supremely.
Can we say, " 'My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed' on things above"?
Amen.
