"DRAWING NIGH to GOD"

"God's Wisdom"
Our Saviour would have us know that during His life on earth He relied wholly upon God for wisdom to live a perfect life, for wisdom to do His appointed work. He said, "The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned." He did not receive at one time wisdom sufficient for all His days, for "morning by morning" God awakened Him "to hear as the learned" (Isaiah 50:4). His experience was one of constant reliance upon His heavenly Father.
What courage it should bring to our hearts to know that the same kind heavenly Father offers wisdom to enable us to attain perfection of character, wisdom to do our appointed work! He is not respecter of persons. To all who ask He will give, not stintedly, but liberally. But never are we to fail to ask. That is our part.
James Murdoch spent three weeks in the White House during the Civil War. One morning just before dawn he heard President Lincoln's voice in low tones. He arose and went to Lincoln's room. He saw the President kneeling before an open Bible, pleading with God for wisdom to guide the affairs of the nation.
No President since the days of Lincoln has carried responsibilities so great, amid so many uncertainties and perplexities, as does our President today. Recently one whose privilege it is to enter President Eisenhower's office unannounced, found him kneeling in prayer. Later, when he apologized for intruding, the President explained that he had been talking to God about the affairs of the nation. He felt his need of wisdom.
Can anyone doubt that God heard the prayers of these great men? To us as verily as to them is the promise given-
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."- James 1:5
Thank you for this. What a great reminder!
