Chickens and People

This morning as I was looking out my bedroom window at my little flock of chickens, my mind wandered again to how majestic my flock used to be and how sad I was to have lost so many. Then I thought of how much I loved the little flock of chickens that I have left. I felt thankful.

Then all of a sudden, I realized that God must feel the same way I do. He created us to be with Him. Sin changed the plan but His desire to have us with Him is still there. In fact, that is the reason He sent His Son to this earth- so that by His sinless life and His death on the cross for our sins we could be saved. God would love for us ALL to be saved- but salvation is a gift - a gift we must accept in order to have salvation.

I am sure that as God looks out of the windows of heaven, He too, must feel sad about those that are lost and I am sure that He feels so much more love in His heart for those that are saved than what I feel for my little flock of chickens. But I am sure that His heart aches for those that are lost. Jesus even told a parable about the shepherd who had 100 sheep and one of them was lost - and the shepherd went out to find the lost one.

What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it?" Luke 15:4

Just as my chickens had adversaries, the dogs, so do we.

"Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8

But Praise the Lord we have a Savior who is more than happy to accept us into His family. As long as we have breath - we have the option of accepting Him as our Lord and Savior. But please don't wait until the last minute because we are not guaranteed even tomorrow. Accept Him today. And think of how happy you would make His heart. He is sad to lose any of His dear children. Don't let it be you that is lost, accept that gift of salvation today.

My flock of chickens might be small but they still have lessons for me to learn from them. And I am so very happy that I have them! :O)
