Several years ago we had 26 chickens. Because I realized that I would need a good sized basket to gather eggs, I bought this cute basket:
And I made a little quilt for the bottom of it.
As you all probably remember not long after the chickens started laying eggs, 2 dog got into their chicken yard while we were gone. And the dogs killed 20 chickens.
The yard looked like a war zone and it still makes me sad to think back on that day. But today I have to bring those memories back up because I learned a special lesson that I would like to share with you.

Sunday morning I took my basket out to my garden. I picked yellow squash, okra, zucchini, green beans and cucumbers.
As I was picking the green beans and my basket was about to over flow I remembered back to getting the basket and felt sad about losing my chickens. Suddenly a thought popped into my mind(a special way that God can speak to us when we are quiet enough to listen).
"You didn't need a basket full of eggs- that wouldn't do you any where near as much good as baskets full of fresh produce."
When bad things happen to us - God can use them to bless us in other ways.
Had I not lost my chickens, that I loved, I may not have heard this message as clearly.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God,
to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28
Very good lesson! I am SO glad that God blesses us even through the sad times or sad things happening to us!
