Breath of the Almighty
The Spirit of God hath made me,
and the breath of the Almighty have given me life."
Job 33:4 KJV
- Name of God the Holy Spirit
- The Holy Spirit is referred to once as the "breath of the Almighty"
- Elihu called Job out on his claim that he was pure and did not deserve punishment. He said the Breath of the Almighty made them both, but the difference was that Elihu made no claim to purity. Job feels he has a case to put before God about his mistreatment. Elihu thinks this is arrogance and Job should simply trust.
We should be surprised that the Breath of the Almighty is different from ours.
The Breath of the Almighty breathed into Adam, gave life to dust. It parted the Red Sea. King David declared God's breath could expose the foundations of the earth. But just as God can be both fearsome and compassionate, so can this awesome force be the companion, comforter, and guide that Jesus sent to bring us safely home.
