"Perhaps the hardest principle to understand in all of Christian living - the waiting principle." Pg 88
Adam, Noah, Joseph, and David are just a few examples given in the Bible of those who had to wait; Some of which over 120 years. And we can be quite sure that at sometime in our Christian walk, we too, will find ourselves waiting. In the book I am currently reading "How To Know God's Will In Your Life" by Morris Venden, I have found some good questions and answers as to way waiting is so important in the Christian life.
"One reason why the doors open slowly is that God has something better for us. He not only wants to give us the guidance and blessing that we seek, but He wants to help us grow as well, to develop a greater trust in Him and in His wisdom and power.
When God puts you "on hold," do you hang up? Or do you hang on? Are you willing to wait as long as is necessary - even if your waiting overlaps into eternity- rather than go outside His will for you? Does it seem that you have been waiting a long time for some of the doors in your life to open and let you through? Don't look on the waiting time as time that is lost. The waiting itself is all part of the process by which God works to guide you, to perfect you, and to prepare you for the work He has assigned you." Pg 93-94
"Wait on the LORD;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD!
Psalm 27:14
I now better understand why the "wait" in this verse means (from the Hebrew word) "wait in eager expectation and hope." Waiting may not be fun but when we have surrendered our lives to God we can rest assured that He is working everything out for our good.
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God,
to those who are called according to His purpose."
~Romans 8:28
